Fire Outbreak at Ministry of Works Headquarters Quickly Contained
A minor fire incident occurred on Friday morning at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Works, located in Mabushi, Abuja. The fire, which started shortly after workers resumed duties, was traced to a spark from a faulty circuit breaker on the building’s ground floor.
According to a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed A. Ahmed, the fire began around 11:30 am in Block A of the Ministry. However, the prompt response from the Federal Fire Service team, led by Station Commander Mr. Kekai Bekebi, ensured that the situation was swiftly brought under control using available fire extinguishers. The team also carried out a successful evacuation of staff as a precautionary measure.
Director of Human Resource Management, Mr. Aliyu Abdullahi, confirmed that there were no casualties, injuries, or loss of documents during the incident. He commended the staff for their orderly conduct throughout the evacuation process.
Cleanup operations began immediately, and normal activities at the Ministry have since resumed. Maintenance teams are currently working to clear debris and ensure that all systems are safe and operational.
