Fire Kills Kano Commissioner’s Daughter, Sister, and Sister-in-Law
A devastating fire has killed three family members of Yusuf Kofar-Mata, the Kano State Commissioner of Higher Education. The tragedy occurred early Wednesday morning at the commissioner’s residence in the Kofar-Mata area of Kano.
The victims were identified as Kofar-Mata’s daughter, Maimuna; his elder sister, Khadija; and his brother’s wife, Juwairiyya. The fire broke out while the family was asleep, causing significant damage and loss of valuable property.
The heartbreaking news was shared by Kofar-Mata on his official Facebook page. “Unto Allah we came and to him we shall return. I mourn the loss of my daughter Maimuna (Islam), my senior [elder] sister, Hajiya Khadija, and my brother’s wife, Juwairiyya, who all perished in the fire accident this morning. Their funeral prayers will be conducted at 11 am at Kofar-Mata quarters, Kano City today (Wednesday),” he wrote.
A family source confirmed the extensive damage caused by the fire, though the exact cause and extent of the damage have yet to be determined. Abdullahi Saminu, the spokesperson for the state fire service, stated that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the details of the incident.
