Fire Consumes Nigeria Police Station in Kano
In the early hours of Monday, a devastating fire swept through the Divisional Police Office located in the Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State. The incident, which occurred at approximately 05:45 a.m., resulted in a substantial portion of the building being completely consumed by flames.
State Police Commissioner, Mr. Usaini Gumel, confirmed the unfortunate event, despite a prompt response from the State Fire Service. Gumel stated, “The Divisional Police headquarters was engulfed by fire, and a major part of the building was burned down completely.”
An immediate investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the fire, with efforts focused on securing the area to prevent intrusion by onlookers and miscreants. Gumel assured the public that the arms and ammunition stored in the office remained secure.
“The Divisional Police Officer is currently sorting out some of the affected documents,” Gumel added.
This marks the second instance of a police station being ravaged by fire in Kano State in 2024. On January 13, the Kano Police Command headquarters in Bompai faced a similar fate, with the fire spreading through various departments. Notably, the police commissioner’s office remained unaffected.
Authorities are diligently working to unravel the circumstances surrounding these incidents, raising concerns about the security of law enforcement infrastructure in the region.
