FG Unveils Ambitious Plan to Transform NYSC into a Revenue-Generating Agency
The Federal Government has officially declared its intention to revamp the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) into a revenue-generating entity. Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, the Minister of Youth Development, revealed this strategic move during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program.
Minister Bio-Ibrahim emphasized the government’s commitment to aligning the NYSC scheme with the current socioeconomic landscape of the nation. Acknowledging the financial challenges faced by the government, she assured the public that innovative measures would be implemented to safeguard the welfare of corps members.
“The reforms will position the NYSC as a revenue-generating agency, equipping corps members with essential skills for the job market, fostering decent employment opportunities, and nurturing entrepreneurship. Adequate support will be provided to guide them along their chosen career paths,” explained the minister.
Highlighting the concern for the safety of corps members, Minister Bio-Ibrahim disclosed a significant policy shift. In response to escalating insecurity nationwide, corps members will no longer be posted to states deemed unsafe. She stressed the importance of collaboration with other government agencies to enhance the security of these young participants in national service.
This ambitious overhaul aims not only to transform the NYSC into a self-sustaining organization but also to empower its members for success in the dynamic job market while prioritizing their safety in the face of growing security challenges.
