FG to Ensure NYSC Members Are Accepted by Federal Agencies, Parastatals, Minister Assures of N77,000 Allowance Implementation
The Federal Government is set to mandate its agencies and parastatals to accept National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members for their mandatory one-year national service. This was disclosed by the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, during an engagement in Abuja.
The Minister revealed that his ministry would submit a memorandum to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the issue, emphasizing the need to eliminate barriers that hinder the posting of corps members to government institutions. Olawande acknowledged reports of corps members being rejected by some agencies and reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving the matter.
The government had recently lifted a ban that restricted NYSC postings to the public sector. The directive, which took effect with the Batch C, Stream I orientation program, now allows corps members to be posted to private sector organizations, including banks and oil and gas companies.
Olawande assured that rejection of corps members by agencies would be tackled. He highlighted the importance of giving young Nigerians opportunities to gain practical experience in their fields of study, emphasizing the need for agencies to support national integration and youth development.
On the implementation of the new N77,000 monthly allowance for NYSC members, the Minister explained that the process was ongoing and nearing completion. He reassured corps members that the payment would commence soon, stating, “It is not rocket science. The increase has been approved, and implementation is in progress. We are at the final stages, and it will be implemented perfectly.”
