FG Seals Sahad Store in Abuja Over Deceptive Pricing Practices

In a move to address concerns over deceptive pricing, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) sealed Sahad Store, a prominent supermarket located in the Garki area of Abuja on Friday.

The action follows the recent announcement by President Bola Tinubu, who unveiled plans to tackle factors contributing to the food crisis across the country. The Federal Government, in collaboration with state governors, established a committee on Thursday to address the issue of hoarding of products.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, revealed after a meeting with President Tinubu, governors, heads of security agencies, and ministers at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, that security agencies were mandated to collaborate with governors in combating the hoarding of commodities.

The FCCPC’s enforcement team, led by Acting Executive Vice Chairman Adamu Ahmed Abdullahi, sealed Sahad Store after accusing its management of shortchanging customers through deceptive pricing practices.

Abdullahi, briefing journalists after the closure, stated that the commission’s preliminary investigation found the supermarket guilty of misleading pricing and lack of transparency, which is in violation of Section 115(3) of the law.

According to the FCCPC, Sahad Store will remain sealed pending further investigation, with Abdullahi emphasizing the legal consequences for such violations. The store’s management is required to comply with the law to have the seal lifted, facing potential fines and legal action if found guilty.
