FG Reacts to Reports Claiming JAMB No Longer Needed for Tertiary Admissions
The Federal Government has dismissed reports circulating on some media platforms suggesting that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been scrapped or is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Federal Ministry of Education through its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the claims as baseless and fabricated. He emphasized that the Ministry did not issue or authorize any such announcement.
Dr. Alausa reaffirmed that JAMB remains the sole legally recognized authority responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions across the country. He urged the public to disregard any contrary reports.
“For the avoidance of doubt, JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria,” the Minister stated. “The established admission processes through JAMB remain fully operational, and any contrary information should be disregarded in its entirety.”
He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and merit in the admission process, noting that the Ministry continues to work closely with JAMB and other relevant agencies to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
The Ministry advised students, parents, and tertiary institutions to rely solely on official communication channels of the Ministry and JAMB for accurate updates on admission policies and education-related matters. It also cautioned media outlets and online platforms against spreading unverified reports, warning that such misinformation could create unnecessary confusion in the education sector.
“The Federal Ministry of Education reiterates that there has been no change in the existing role of JAMB, which remains central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework,” the statement concluded.
The public was encouraged to visit the official websites and verified social media handles of both the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for credible information on educational matters.
