FG Closes Case in Terrorism Trial Against Nnamdi Kanu
The Federal Government on Thursday concluded its case in the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on charges related to terrorism and treasonable felony.
The announcement was made by the government’s lead counsel, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, at the Federal High Court in Abuja. This followed the conclusion of testimony from the fifth prosecution witness, identified as EEE for security reasons, who was cross-examined by Kanu’s defence lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu.
Awomolo informed the court that the prosecution had called a total of five witnesses and had tendered substantial evidence, including materials related to IPOB’s broadcasts. He said the government was satisfied with the evidence presented and therefore decided to close its case.
“I therefore close the case,” he stated.
Following this development, the lead defence counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi, informed the court that the defence team would file a no-case submission, challenging the sufficiency of the prosecution’s evidence.
