FG bends as Twitter agrees to set up office in Nigeria
The Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government of Nigeria have almost concluded plans to overturn it’s earlier decision to suspend the activities of Twitter in Nigeria.
This was made known by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, while speaking to Journalists in Abuja.
He said, most of the issues initially raised by the Federal Government have been resolved and most conditions issued out to Twitter have been accepted and as such, plans are in top gear to overturn the suspension.
You would recall that, the FG had on June 4th, announced the indefinite suspension of the operations of Twitter in Nigeria.
The Federal Government had attributed the suspension to “the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence”.
Lai Mohammed further said, Twitter has also agreed to set up an office in Nigeria.
Twitter however maintained that the earliest it can set up an office in Nigeria is 2022.
The Information and Culture minister, however acknowledged the anxiety shown by Nigerians and promised that, the seemingly knotty issues will be ironed out with Twitter within a few days or weeks.
