The Federal Government has announced its decision to discontinue the treasonable felony case against Omoyele Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters. The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, revealed this development in an official document addressed to the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Abuja Division, dated February 15, 2024.

The notice of discontinuance, as outlined in the document, cites the powers conferred upon Lateef Fagbemi under Section 174 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, Section 107 (1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, and other relevant powers.
The Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, affirmed the decision in the document, signaling an unexpected resolution to a case that had drawn widespread attention. This development brings a sudden and surprising conclusion to the legal battle that has unfolded over the past months. The details surrounding the government’s decision to discontinue the charges are yet to be fully disclosed, leaving room for speculation and analysis within the legal and political spheres.
