Federal Government Approves Salary Increase for Civil Servants
The Federal Government has announced a salary increase for civil servants across six consolidated salary structures. The approval includes an increment ranging from 25% to 35% on the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).
This salary increment comes after similar increases were previously approved for employees in the tertiary education and health sectors. The tertiary education sector beneficiaries include those under the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS) and Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS). Staff at polytechnics and colleges of education also received increases under the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS) and Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS).
Meanwhile, the health sector witnessed salary boosts with the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS). According to a statement signed by Emmanuel Njoku, Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC), the salary increases for civil servants will take effect from January 1, 2024.
Additionally, the Federal Government has approved pension increases of between 20% and 28% for pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme related to the six consolidated salary structures. This change will also take effect from January 1, 2024.
This development signifies the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its employees and retirees, aiming to provide them with better financial stability as they serve the nation or enter their retirement years.
