Federal Government Approves Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic in Abuja
The Nigerian government has approved the establishment of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, Abuja, as part of its national policy to expand access to technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial education across the country.
In a letter dated January 9, 2025, and addressed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the federal government’s goal of ensuring that each state has at least one federal polytechnic. The letter was officially received by the FCT Minister’s office on January 16, 2025.
Dr. Alausa requested the FCT Minister to propose suitable locations in Gwarinpa for both the temporary and permanent sites of the polytechnic. He also stated that a technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education would visit the proposed locations for inspection before final approval is granted.
Additionally, the Minister of Education suggested that the FCT Minister could consider the takeover of an existing tertiary institution to facilitate the polytechnic’s establishment. The new institution is expected to strengthen vocational and technical education, contributing to national development and economic growth.
