Federal Government Apologizes to Nigerians for Economic Hardship

In a recent statement, the federal government has expressed its apologies to Nigerians for the ongoing economic difficulties facing the country. The apology was delivered by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, during the Ministerial Sectoral Update in Abuja. This event marked part of the activities commemorating the one-year anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Minister Bagudu emphasized the government’s commitment to restoring macroeconomic stability, which he believes is crucial for attracting both domestic and international investment. He acknowledged the current challenges, including an unfavorable exchange rate and high inflation, and apologized for the associated hardships. “I apologize for the pain that they may occasion, but they are necessary,” he stated.

Bagudu reaffirmed confidence in the government’s economic strategy, while admitting that it might require occasional adjustments. He highlighted the need for substantial investment across various sectors, including security, education, and social welfare, to achieve economic stability. “Nothing we do can solve the problem of underinvestment in various sectors of the economy… without restoring a macro-economy that can stimulate investment,” he added.

He also pointed out the inadequacies in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, and stressed the importance of addressing these issues to match the nation’s aspirations. The minister concluded by underscoring the need for a comprehensive approach to revitalize other vital sectors, such as the creative economy, digital economy, and steel industry.
