Fear Spreads at AAUA as Two Students Vanish Without a Trace
Tension is mounting at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, as two second-year students have been declared missing for more than two weeks, sparking concern among students and staff.
The missing students have been identified as Andrel Eloho Okah, a 200-level student from the Department of History and International Studies, Faculty of Arts, and John Friday Abba, also in 200 level, from the Department of Economics, Faculty of Agriculture. Their unexplained absence from lectures and campus life has triggered fear and speculation within the university community.
Fellow students, speaking to The Nation on Tuesday, July 8, confirmed that all efforts to contact the duo through their mobile phones have failed. One student, who gave his name as Ajibola, expressed deep worry over the situation and the perceived inaction from authorities. “We searched everywhere. We can’t find them, and we’re worried about their whereabouts,” he said. “We don’t even know if it is a case of kidnapping or something else. The two of them are very close. Their sudden disappearance is giving us concerns.”
Ajibola added that despite reporting the matter to the school management and the police, the response has been underwhelming. “They are telling us to just calm down. There’s nothing tangible that has been done,” he said, noting that officials suggested the missing students might be on vacation, an explanation students find unconvincing.
A source within the university management acknowledged the situation and said the authorities are actively involved in investigating the case. The source hinted at possible internal issues, suggesting that “unwholesome activities” among some students on campus might be linked to the incident. “We are in touch with the police on the matter to unravel what exactly could have led to this, more so that their colleagues are also suspicious of their purported whereabouts,” the source said.
As the days go by with no new information, anxiety continues to grow across the AAUA campus, with many students calling for urgent and decisive action to locate their missing peers.
