Anambra Student Tops 2025 UTME as JAMB Probes his Identity

Okeke Chinedu, a candidate from Anambra State, has scored the highest mark in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with a total of 375. However, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has raised concerns over inconsistencies in his identity and academic background.

JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed the issue during the 2025 JAMB Policy Meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday. According to Oloyede, while Chinedu applied for admission to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos, JAMB’s database indicates that he was admitted into the Medicine programme at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) four years ago.

UNN has reportedly confirmed that Chinedu remains an active student in the Faculty of Medicine and is performing well academically. However, the university has not submitted any official record of his withdrawal or transfer, raising concerns about how he was able to register for UTME again under a new identity.

In response, JAMB has contacted the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria to ensure that Chinedu is not later licensed to practice medicine under potentially fraudulent circumstances.

Other top performers in the 2025 UTME include Ayuba Simon-Peter with 374, followed by Jimoh Abdulmalik, Roberts Damiete, Ononugbo Chigozirim, Olawepo Gertrude, Afinotan Leslie, Azoyenime Samuel, and Oyebode Oluwapelumi — each scoring 373.
