FCTA Cracks Down on Violations: 69 Commercial Vehicles Impounded
In a concerted effort to maintain order on the streets and enhance the security of its residents, the Security Taskforce of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) took decisive action on Monday by impounding 69 commercial vehicles across the territory. These impoundments were the result of various infractions, including wrongful parking, operating rickety vehicles, and failure to display proper number plates.
Abdulateef Bello, the Director of the FCTA Directorate of Road Traffic Services, addressed the media during the operation, emphasizing the administration’s unwavering commitment to eradicating illegal commercial vehicle operators from the city. Bello affirmed that the owners of the impounded vehicles would face prosecution in the FCT Mobile Court, situated within the premises of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services.
During the operation, authorities apprehended three individuals alleged to be members of the notorious “one-chance” syndicate. They will be handed over to the police for further legal action. This move reflects the FCTA’s determination to combat criminal activities in the area.
Mukhtar Galadima, Director of the FCT Department of Development Control, identified indiscipline as a major factor contributing to the rise of “one-chance” operations in the city. Galadima emphasized the administration’s commitment to utilizing the 40 taxi ranks provided by the FCTA in the city center as part of its strategy to curb illegal activities.
Peter Olumuji, Secretary of the FCTA Command and Control Unit, showcased items recovered from the “one-chance” operators and urged road users to utilize the designated taxi ranks. He reiterated the administration’s relentless pursuit of eradicating such criminal operations in the city, underscoring the importance of fostering a safer environment for all Abuja residents.
