FCT Polls: DSS Operative Escapes Mob Attack in Kuje
An operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) narrowly avoided being lynched on Saturday at a polling unit in Kuje Area Council during the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) council elections.
The incident occurred at the Junior Secondary School, Kayada polling station, where more than 50 youths reportedly confronted the officer. The group accused him of recording videos and taking photographs of alleged vote trading activities around the polling area.
Witnesses said the operative was assaulted for several minutes as tensions escalated. His mobile phone was damaged during the attack, and his wallet was briefly taken before being returned.
No security personnel were present at the scene while the incident unfolded, leaving the officer to fend for himself as he appealed to the crowd to spare him.
Speaking shortly before leaving the area on a motorcycle, the visibly shaken operative said his accreditation card was seized during the confrontation. He, however, expressed relief that he escaped without further harm.
