FCT Minister Wike Notifies Apo Mechanic Village Traders of Imminent Relocation
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced that traders at the Apo Mechanic Village will soon need to relocate to facilitate the development of key road infrastructure in Abuja. This decision, he emphasized, is made in the public’s interest.
The announcement came on Tuesday as Wike inspected the ongoing construction of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) service carriageway, which runs from Ring Road 1 (Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway) to Wasa Junction. The Apo Mechanic Village, which sits along this route, will be affected as the government advances the road project.
Wike reassured traders that a dedicated committee has been working to facilitate their relocation to a permanent site in Wasa, aiming to minimize disruptions and ensure a smooth transition. He noted that the traders have long been aware that the road project would eventually reach their area and are prepared for the upcoming changes.
“The committee is doing its job. Everyone knows that this road will pass through the area, so there shouldn’t be any issues with the relocation process,” Wike stated. “We’ve informed them that when the time comes, they will have to relocate in the interest of the public. It’s not for any individual’s benefit—it’s for the community.”
Minister Wike highlighted that the initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s directive to expand infrastructure development across Abuja’s city and satellite towns. The new roads, including those in satellite areas, will feature solar-powered streetlights—a first in many of these locations.
Wike praised the pace and quality of the construction work, remarking, “It’s wonderful. We’re pleased with the progress and the contractors’ efforts. The ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ is in action, and people can see the tangible changes happening around them.”
