FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Vows to Stay Focused Amidst Lies, Engages Religious Leaders
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the nation’s interest and his refusal to be swayed by baseless social media accusations. This declaration came during separate courtesy visits to the FCTA by a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Committee of League of Imams Initiative.
Minister Wike emphasized the importance of verifying information and seeking clarity on government policies and actions from the administration, encouraging the public to reach out when in doubt. He stated, “I’m seated here as the Minister of FCT. If there is anything you hear that the FCT is trying to do, do not hesitate to also ask if it is correct so that we will be able to defend the government and defend ourselves.”
In addition to addressing false information regarding the National Mosque, Minister Wike cautioned against divisive tactics employed by certain politicians who exploit religion to sow discord in pursuit of their political ambitions. He urged religious leaders to be vigilant and avoid perpetuating hatred or mistrust, highlighting the significance of praying for the success of the government in power.
Minister Wike reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to maintaining the National Christian Center and Abuja National Mosque, which have been declared national monuments.
Regarding the economic challenges faced by the nation, Minister Wike recognized the necessity of making difficult decisions to rectify past errors, requesting patience and understanding from the public.
The President of CAN, Most Reverend Daniel Okoh, conveyed his congratulations to Minister Wike and expressed optimism about his leadership’s transformative potential. He assured the support of the association in promoting Christian unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians, regardless of their faith or ethnic background.
Imam Tajudeen Adigun, Chairman of the Committee, League of Imams Initiative, highlighted the organization’s mission to foster unity among the Muslim community and peaceful coexistence with other faiths. He affirmed the readiness of the League of Imams to collaborate with Minister Wike and to disregard disinformation aimed at causing disharmony in society.
In attendance at both events were the Permanent Secretary of FCTA, Mr. Olusade Adesola, and senior officials of the FCTA.
