FCT: How Bandits Killed Nursing Mother, Mother-in-law After 10 Years of Barrenness

Despite the ongoing efforts of security operatives to address the worsening security situation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, violence persists. The bloodthirsty assailants have intensified unprovoked attacks on residents, raising concerns about the safety of the capital city.

In a tragic incident, the family of Simon Igba, a Nigeria Police Force officer, faced unimaginable sorrow when his wife, Christiana Igba, and mother-in-law, Maria Agbo, were killed. The assailants kidnapped the victims from their residence near the Mobil Barracks in Dei-Dei about two weeks ago.

Christiana, who had recently given birth after a decade of barrenness, was on a postnatal visit with her mother. The bandits invaded their home, leaving Simon Igba injured and abducting Christiana, her mother, and the one-month-old baby.

Despite successful rescue operations and suspect arrests by security operatives, some attacks remain underreported. According to a neighbor, Adejor Jacob, the kidnappers demanded a N90 million ransom, eventually settling for N10 million before carrying out the murders.

The devastating incident sheds light on the broader security challenges faced by residents in areas like Dei-Dei. Some locals are reportedly leaving due to escalating security issues, with numerous incidents going unreported by the media.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, declined to comment on the matter when contacted by Daily Post. The daredevil terrorists continue their rampage across various areas in the territory, causing widespread fear and anxiety among residents.

Security expert Elder Ben Ijeoche emphasizes the need for establishing state police, arguing that local officers familiar with crisis areas can better address security challenges. He believes that state police would not only enhance security but also create job opportunities for the youth.

In response to the escalating crisis, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike assures residents that positive developments are imminent. He pledges support to security agencies and plans to provide motorcycles to vigilante groups for better information gathering.
