FBI Arrests Alleged Fraudster “Bobo Chicago” in $2.8 Million Scam Case
The FBI has arrested 25-year-old Oluyomi Omobolanle Bombata, known by his aliases “Bobo Chicago” and “Bola Flexx,” for allegedly orchestrating a $2.8 million business email compromise scheme and engaging in money laundering. Bombata, whose flamboyant lifestyle had earned him notoriety, was apprehended on November 20 in Illinois under an arrest warrant issued in Oklahoma.
The arrest follows a federal investigation linking Bombata to fraudulent activities that reportedly spanned from June to October 2023. According to authorities, Bombata and an unnamed co-conspirator hacked into multiple accounts belonging to companies and individuals within the Eastern District of Oklahoma, stealing millions of dollars. The investigation revealed that over $300,000 of the stolen funds had been funneled to a liquor store, implicating its owner in the operation.
Bombata, who had previously been accused of harassing members of the Nigerian community in Houston, fled to Chicago before his arrest. After his detention in Illinois, he was transferred to Oklahoma to face a five-count federal indictment, including charges of wire fraud, conspiracy, money laundering, and unlawful monetary transactions.
During his initial court appearance, Bombata was assigned a public defender after claiming he lacked the financial means to hire legal representation. Legal analysts suggest this move might indicate his intent to avoid a protracted legal battle.
The case adds Bombata’s name to a growing list of Nigerians charged or convicted for financial crimes in the United States. Notable cases include Ramon Abbas, known as “Hushpuppi,” and Olalekan Ponle, alias “Mr. Woodberry,” who were convicted of multimillion-dollar fraud schemes. Both men are currently serving prison sentences in the United States.
