Akwa Ibom State Police Command’s Quick Intervention Unit has apprehended one Sunday Ben of Aka Itiam Etoi village in Uyo Local Government Area. He stands accused of the heinous crime of defiling his own six-year-old daughter.
According to a statement released by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Odiko MacDon, on Wednesday, another distressing case has come to light. The police have also arrested Bright Nwoke (29) from Eket Local Government Area for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old girl residing in the same area.
Nwoke, who shockingly confessed to the crime, detailed that he had sent the victim’s younger brother away to buy a recharge card before taking the young girl to his room and silencing her to prevent her from calling for help.
In the case of Sunday Ben, it was revealed that he had taken the victim from her mother to his house. Tragically, when he returned the child the following day, she was discovered with bloodstains and injuries on her private parts. Medical examination subsequently confirmed the horrifying abuse.
In other troubling developments, operatives of the Crime Prevention Squad have apprehended Idris Shaibu, Ikechukwu Nwaoba, Idongesit Ekpo, and Kenneth Chukwu in Ikot Enua village, Ikono LGA, for attempting to steal crude oil. The authorities seized two tankers along with tools associated with illegal activities.
Additionally, the Anti-Kidnapping unit of the command executed a meticulous operation resulting in the arrest of Inemesit Effiong, also known as ‘Fifty Cent,’ a member of a sea piracy and kidnapping gang that has been terrorizing Uruan waterways and its vicinity. An AK-47 rifle was confiscated during the arrest, and Effiong confessed to his involvement in several kidnappings in collaboration with his gang.
Furthermore, on July 20, 2023, Ukanafun Division operatives acted on credible information and stormed Ikot Akpa-Nkuk community in Ukanafun L.G.A. They apprehended three suspected kidnappers: Nanai Ekpo (female) of Odaro Ikot Village in Ukanafun LGA, Barika Nulee, and Nwidum Yaake, both hailing from Khana Local Government Area in Rivers State. Nanai Ekpo confessed to her role in luring unsuspecting men to her boyfriend for kidnapping, with ransom being their sinister motive.
