Family Reveals Cause of Mike Ejeagha’s Death
The family of legendary highlife musician Mike Ejeagha has confirmed that the revered artist passed away from prostate cancer. Ejeagha, best known for his 1983 classic Gwo gwo ngwo, died on Friday evening at the age of 95.
In an interview with *Vanguard* on Saturday, the singer’s eldest son, Emma Ejeagha, disclosed that his father had been battling the illness since 2006. He said the iconic musician passed away at 8 p.m. at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu. “I was with him during his final moments,” Emma shared, adding that Ejeagha’s remains have since been taken to the mortuary.
Emma also revealed that his father had made specific requests before his death, asking that his body not be embalmed or kept in the mortuary for an extended period.
Ejeagha’s legacy saw a resurgence in 2024 when Gwo gwo ngwo gained renewed popularity after comedian Brain Jotter featured the track in a global dance challenge, introducing his timeless sound to a new generation.
