False Fire Alert Causes Panic on Air Peace Flight; Pilot Requests Priority Landing

A Port Harcourt-Lagos Air Peace flight encountered panic after a false fire alarm prompted the airline to request priority landing, according to reports from Daily Trust. Despite the alarm, the flight landed safely without any further incident, and all passengers disembarked normally.

The airline released a statement explaining that a fire warning indicator was noticed in the cockpit by the captain just minutes before landing. Safety precautionary measures were swiftly undertaken, causing the fire indicator to turn off. The Captain then notified the airline’s operations control center in Lagos at 17:37 hrs, requesting priority landing.

The airline’s statement read, “It was determined upon landing that the alarm was falsely triggered as there was no fire event. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers disembarked normally.”

This incident follows closely after another aviation-related event involving a Dana aircraft that skidded off the runway in Lagos, resulting in the temporary grounding of all Dana aircraft. While safety remains a high priority for airlines, these recent events have caused heightened awareness and concern within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
