Faith First: Obi Cubana Responds to Backlash Over Political Appointment

Nigerian businessman Obi Cubana, born Obinna Iyiegbu, has shifted focus to his spiritual mission, stating that his most important assignment is “winning souls for Christ,” following criticism over his political engagement.

The hotelier made the declaration in a Facebook post on Sunday, after being appointed South-East Coordinator for the City Boy Movement, a group supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC). The appointment has sparked backlash on social media, with critics accusing him of aligning with an administration they blame for worsening economic and social conditions in the country.

In his post, Obi Cubana wrote: “The MOST important assignment now is winning souls for Christ. Our week is way too blessed and full of fruitfulness, amen! Awesome time in God’s presence as always.”

The businessman’s religious commitment gained wider attention after he was led to Christ by Pastor Jerry Eze, founder of Streams of Joy International. Observers note that this spiritual turn comes at a time when his public life is under heightened scrutiny due to his political affiliations.
