Ex-Convict Arrested for Theft Five Days After Release from Prison
The Delta State Police Command has arrested a recently released ex-convict, Precious Okoro, for stealing a motorcycle—just five days after completing a two-year jail term for a similar crime.
Police spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, disclosed in a statement that operatives of the Eagle-Net Special Squad were on patrol when they received a distress call about a stolen motorcycle. Working with the Nigeria Hunters Security Services (NHSS), officers tracked and arrested Okoro, 27, alongside his accomplice, 18-year-old Buhari Deyegu. The stolen motorcycle was recovered.
Okoro, who regained freedom from the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Facility on August 6, 2025, allegedly returned to crime almost immediately. A subsequent search of his residence led to the recovery of a Tiger generator, a large Fireman generator, and an iron measuring scale, suspected to be stolen items.
In a separate operation, police also apprehended 39-year-old Bassey Udoh in Asaba with an English Beretta pistol. According to preliminary investigations, Udoh belongs to a burglary syndicate notorious for breaking into homes and carting away valuables.
SP Bright said Udoh was intercepted by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad during a stop-and-search operation on August 16. His suspicious behavior prompted officers to conduct an immediate search, which uncovered the firearm. Udoh reportedly confessed to purchasing the gun for ₦30,000.
The Delta State Police Command assured residents that investigations are ongoing and reaffirmed its commitment to tackling crime across the state.
