Equatorial Guinea’s Financial Crime Chief in Hot Water Over Scandalous Video Leak
Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), is at the center of a significant scandal following the release of explicit videos showing him engaged in sexual encounters with multiple women, including some who are married.
The scandal surfaced during an investigation into alleged fraud, during which over 300 tapes featuring Engonga were recovered and have since gone viral online. The footage reportedly includes encounters with prominent individuals, including his brother’s wife, his cousin, and the sister of the President of Equatorial Guinea.
The videos were discovered in Engonga’s personal office and are said to have been recorded with consent, sparking a media frenzy in the country.
In response to the scandal, Vice President Teodoro Nguema issued a public statement on X (formerly Twitter), condemning the inappropriate conduct within government offices. He emphasized that sexual relations in administrative workplaces are strictly prohibited and warned of serious consequences for those who violate this rule.
“Given the abuse that has been shown on social media in Equatorial Guinea in recent days, I remind everyone that ministries are solely for administrative work aimed at supporting the country’s development. Sexual relations in offices are prohibited,” Nguema stated. He assured the public that control mechanisms are in place to enforce this policy, adding that violators would face disciplinary action, including dismissal from their positions.
