JUST IN: Former Equatorial Guinea Official Baltasar Engonga, Whose Sex Videos Went Viral, Jailed for Embezzlement
A court in Equatorial Guinea has sentenced former senior government official Baltasar Ebang Engonga to eight years in prison for embezzlement, months after he became the subject of an international scandal over leaked sex videos.
The Bioko provincial tribunal found Engonga guilty of diverting public funds by claiming professional travel expenses that he later used for personal purposes. The decision was confirmed by Hilario Mitogo, press director of the Supreme Court, who shared details of the ruling with reporters.
Engonga, who once served as Director-General of the National Agency for Financial Investigation, was tried alongside five other officials accused of misappropriating hundreds of thousands of dollars in state resources.
The former official, known by the nickname “Bello,” first made global headlines in November 2024 after a series of sex tapes involving him—some reportedly recorded inside his finance ministry office—were leaked on social media while he was in detention awaiting trial.
