Enugu: Man Apprehended in Attempted Abduction of 15-Month-Old Baby

In a recent incident in Igogoro village, Enugu-Ezike, a 21-year-old man named Ifeanyi Omeke was arrested while attempting to steal a 15-month-old baby from her parents’ apartment.

This harrowing ordeal unfolded on October 27 around 1:30 p.m. and was brought to an end by the diligent efforts of the Enugu State Police. The arrest was made possible through a collaborative operation between the police officers of the Igbo-Eze North Police Division and the vigilant Neighborhood Watch Group, who successfully dismantled a child-stealing syndicate.

According to a statement issued by the Enugu State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspect, Ifeanyi Omeke, had managed to gain access to the family’s residence in the community with sinister intentions of abducting the infant girl. Fortunately, he was apprehended before he could carry out his criminal act.

Upon his arrest, Omeke confessed to his involvement in the heinous crime and revealed that he had been contracted by an organized group to steal children for ritualistic and other illicit purposes.

The gravity of the situation has prompted the intervention of the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu. He has directed the immediate transfer of the case to the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough and comprehensive investigation.

This investigation aims not only to bring Ifeanyi Omeke to justice but also to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate involved in this abhorrent child-stealing operation.
