Ekiti Man Sentenced to Death for Killing Wife’s Lover
An Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division, has handed down a death sentence to Ayodeji Alomoge, a 28-year-old man, for the murder of a man reportedly having an affair with his wife.
Alomoge stood trial on a charge of murder, accused of killing Ogunleye Ayomide on June 21, 2022, in Ikere Ekiti. The charge was brought under Section 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
According to the father of the deceased, Ige Ogunleye, Alomoge and his associates severely assaulted Ayomide, leading to his demise. Ogunleye recounted finding his son in a critical condition, surrounded by his own blood, following the assault.
Alomoge justified his actions by claiming that Ayomide had been involved with his wife and had been warned to stop or face the consequences.
During the trial, the prosecutor, Kunle-Shina Adeyemo, presented five witnesses and submitted various pieces of evidence, including the defendant’s statements, images of the deceased, and a medical report detailing the cause of death.
In his defense, Alomoge’s lawyer, Adeyinka Opaleke, pleaded for leniency, although no witnesses were called on behalf of the defendant.
Delivering the judgment on Thursday, Justice Jubril Aladejana emphasized that disputes over romantic relationships should not justify violent acts unless there is an immediate and intense provocation.
Consequently, Alomoge was found guilty of murder and sentenced to death by hanging, with the court ordering that he be executed accordingly.
