EFCC Secures Conviction of Three for Defrauding Zion Prayer Movement Members

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Benin Zonal Directorate, has successfully prosecuted three individuals who impersonated Evangelist Ebuka Anozie Obi, the Spiritual Director of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach. The trio was found guilty of defrauding members of the public through their fraudulent activities.

The convicted individuals, Odion Victor, Amos Godwin, and Ayomide Michael, faced charges at the Edo State High Court in Benin. They had created fake social media accounts in the name of Evangelist Obi, misleading followers of the Zion Prayer Movement into making monetary contributions. These contributions were purportedly for aiding sick individuals, sowing seeds for spiritual breakthroughs, or arranging special prayers. The funds were funneled into bank accounts controlled by the culprits.

Presiding over the case, Hon. Justice G.O. Madegbelo delivered the verdict, sentencing the defendants to community service. Additionally, the court ordered the forfeiture of their mobile phones and the remaining balances in their bank accounts to the Federal Government through the EFCC. These items were deemed proceeds and instruments of their criminal activities.
