EFCC Conducts Midnight Raid on University Hostels, Arrests Several Students
Operatives from Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided private hostels at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), leading to the arrest of several students.
According to reports, the EFCC officials targeted hostels in the Kwakwalawa and Gidan Yaro communities, conducting the raid around 4 AM. Dozens of students were reportedly taken into custody.
Eyewitnesses recount that the operatives arrived unannounced, entering hostels and making arrests indiscriminately. Many students were caught off guard by the operation, which they described as sudden and intense.
At the time of reporting, the EFCC has not yet issued an official statement regarding the reason for the raid or the nature of the students’ arrests.
This incident follows a pattern of similar operations. Earlier this year, the EFCC carried out a similar midnight raid at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), where students were arrested from their lodges around Orita Obele. In that instance, the students initially feared they were being attacked by kidnappers due to the aggressive nature of the operation, which included property damage and allegations of assault.
