#EdoDecides2024: INEC Reacts to Viral Etsako Polling Unit Result Showing APC Votes Exceed Accredited Voters
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has responded to reports of suspicious vote totals at a polling unit in Etsako, Edo State, during the ongoing gubernatorial election. Allegations surfaced earlier today that the All Progressives Congress (APC) received 352 votes, despite only 213 voters being accredited at the polling unit.
In a swift reaction, INEC acknowledged the issue in a public statement, noting that this is the second complaint they have received out of the 4,519 polling units across the state. The Commission assured the public that it will immediately investigate the alleged irregularities and take appropriate action if any infractions are confirmed.
“The Commission’s attention has been drawn to an allegation of wrong figures entered into polling unit result sheets in the ongoing Edo State Governorship election. This is the second complaint we have received out of the 4,519 polling units used for the election. The Commission will immediately investigate the matter and deal with any proven infraction,” the statement read.
As the election continues, the incident has intensified concerns about the transparency of the process, but INEC’s swift response aims to restore confidence in the system.
