In a shocking incident at Ikpeshi in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, two policemen on escort duty lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries as a result of a mob attack.
The unfortunate event unfolded when a Toyota Hilux vehicle, part of the convoy escorting former Edo House of Assembly member Emmanuel Agbaje, collided with a motorcycle, leading to the tragic death of the rider, a woman, and her child.
Angered by the accident, youths from the Ikpeshi community tracked down the policemen involved and brutally beat them to death. The deceased officers were identified as members of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) 19, stationed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Fortunately, two other policemen from the same escort duty were rescued by operatives of the Edo State Vigilante Network. They are currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Edo State.
Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that the investigation is underway. The command assures the public that more details will be released as the investigation progresses.
