Edo: Man Murders Girlfriend, Hides Body in Shallow Grave — Police Uncover Chilling Crime
The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old man, Joshua Osaigbovo, for allegedly killing his girlfriend, 21-year-old Osato Edogiaweria, who was reported missing in April 2025. The arrest was confirmed in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu.
According to the statement, the case was initially reported on April 25 by the victim’s mother, Mrs. Ojo, at the Aduwawa Police Division. She said her daughter left home on April 20 with a friend and never returned. The matter was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further handling.
Through what the police described as “painstaking investigation and technical intelligence,” officers from the Family Unit arrested Osaigbovo on June 18 in the Iyanomon community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to inviting Osato to his home on April 27. He claimed that an argument broke out, leading to a physical altercation during which she fell, hit her head on the floor, and died.
Osaigbovo further confessed that he moved her body in a wheelbarrow to a nearby bush, where he buried her in a shallow grave just a few meters from his house. On June 20, police operatives, led by the suspect, visited the site where Osato’s remains were exhumed following due procedures.
The police confirmed that Osaigbovo will be charged to court upon the conclusion of their investigation.
