Edo Election: Mercy Johnson’s Husband, Prince Okojie, Narrowly Escapes Assassination Attempt

Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, a federal lawmaker representing the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at his residence in Uromi. The lawmaker, who is also the husband of Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson, was reportedly attacked by armed men believed to be political thugs on Friday morning.

According to a statement released by Okojie’s media aide, Michael Ihaza, the attackers arrived at the residence in a Lexus GX 470 with a Rivers State registration number, PHC 253 FF. Disguised as police officers, the assailants gained access to the lawmaker’s living room, claiming to have an appointment.

The assassination attempt was thwarted by security personnel assigned to Okojie. Two of the attackers fled the scene, leaving behind their driver and another individual who were apprehended and are currently being interrogated by officers from the Nigeria Police Force in Uromi.

In their initial confessions, the arrested suspects allegedly revealed that they were sent by leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Esan North-East Local Government Area.

Efforts to obtain an official response from the Edo State Police Command have been unsuccessful as of this report.
