Edo: Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu Declares Himself Winner in Cozy Living Room Primary

Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor of Edo state, emerged victorious in what can only be described as a ‘factional’ and ‘homey’ governorship primary held in the comfort of his own residence.

The makeshift election, which reportedly took place in Shaibu’s living room in Benin City, saw the deputy governor securing over 300 votes, according to Bartholomew Moses, the self-proclaimed returning officer.

In a curious turn of events, some party delegates, initially gathering at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, found themselves locked out and redirected to Shaibu’s residence for the unique electoral experience.

While officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were nowhere to be seen at this impromptu home-based election, another PDP Edo gubernatorial election, observed by INEC officials, declared Asue Ighodalo as the winner.

The PDP national working committee (NWC) seems to be stuck in a parallel universe, recognizing a more conventional primary at the stadium while the deputy governor enjoys a cozy celebration at home.
