Edo APC Members Protest Alleged Planned Return of Former Deputy Governor Shaibu

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Etsako West Chapter, Delta State, voiced their opposition on Tuesday against the purported return of impeached Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, to the party.

Protesters representing the 12 wards of the council area marched to the party secretariat to submit their petition against Shaibu’s potential return.

Yakubu Musa, speaking on behalf of APC stakeholders in Etsako West LGA, emphasized that Shaibu’s departure from the APC in 2020 had ushered in a period of peace and harmony within the party. He cautioned that Shaibu’s re-entry could disrupt this tranquility and sow discord within the party.

Musa stated, “We are protesting over an attempt by the impeached deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, to jump the boat and defect to the APC. The attempt is viewed seriously by members of APC as a calculated plan by Shaibu to bring rancor, disharmony, and unprecedented crisis into APC.”

The protesters appealed to national party leaders including the National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, and the State Acting Chairman, Jaret Tenebe, urging them not to allow Shaibu’s re-entry into the APC. They argued that Shaibu lacked political value and had not won any elections since leaving the APC for the PDP.

“We call on our national leaders to hear our voice and help us keep the peace we currently enjoy in Edo APC. Any attempt to readmit Shaibu into APC is a direct invitation to crisis, fragmentation, disaffection, disenchantment, and disintegration,” Musa added.
