The University of Ibadan have confirmed that Godwin Obaseki the Edo State Governor graduated from the institution.
The Registrar of the University, Olubunmi Faluyi, in a press statement said that “Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki was admitted into the University of Ibadan in 1976 to study Classics and he graduated in 1979 with a Second Class Honours, Lower Division.
Issues had arisen, when during the inauguration of APC’s screening and appeal committee for the elections in Abuja, Adams Oshiomole expressed doubts over the authenticity of Obaseki’s University of Ibadan certificate.
Oshiomole was reported to have said “Someone should approach the University and end this matter once and for all.”
“If the certificate Obaseki parades is that of UI, then they should find out how he passed Senate screening of those days?”
He further stated that “I am aware, that in those days, when this man never dreamt of becoming Governor, every student, no matter your status or your family name, you must pass the screening.”
“It is done every third term at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), then we ran terminal not semester programme. The final screening was in the third year, before you go for your final year.”
“How come the UI allowed him. Did he do a remedial? Which was not unlikely. These are questions. Many came in, especially in education and linguistics, did remedial for one year and if the result is good, gained direct entry and graduated three years later.”
The governor, had however through his spokesperson Crusoe Osagie, challenged Oshiomole to go and confirm the authenticity of his certificate at the University of Ibadan.
