Edison Ehie Withdraws Contempt Suit Against 25 Rivers Assembly Members Amidst Peace Deal

Edison Ehie, the representative for Ahoada East Constituency II at the Rivers State House of Assembly, has decided to withdraw his contempt proceedings suit against 25 out of 27 lawmakers. This decision comes in the wake of a peace agreement brokered between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his political rival, Nyesom Wike.

Last December, Ehie, a staunch ally of Governor Fubara, had declared the seats of 27 lawmakers vacant due to their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, two of the lawmakers later returned to the PDP.

Ehie, leading a group of five lawmakers loyal to Governor Fubara, had filed contempt proceedings at the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt against 25 lawmakers, challenging their sittings and legislative activities.

In a surprising turn of events, Edison Ehie resigned from his position in the House of Assembly following a peace deal between Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike. Consequently, Mr. Ehie is now discontinuing and withdrawing his legal action against the 25 lawmakers.

During today’s court proceedings, Mac-Barango Esq, counsel to the claimant, informed the court about a Notice of Discontinuance filed by his client. The defendant’s counsel did not challenge this request, leading to the court striking out the case.
