Ebrahim Raisi: US Cites Potential Causes of Helicopter Crash
The United States has outlined several potential causes for the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
The incident occurred in a mountainous region of East Azerbaijan province under foggy conditions. The crash also resulted in the deaths of East Azerbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati and Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, a representative of the Iranian Supreme Leader to the region.
There were three helicopters in the convoy, two of which were transporting various ministers and officials.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin firmly denied any US involvement in the crash. “The United States had no part to play in that crash. That’s a fact, plain and simple,” Austin stated. He added, “It could be a number of things—mechanical failure, pilot error, you name it. We continue to monitor the situation but we don’t have any insights into the cause of the accident.”
