Ebonyi Man Treks 633km From Lagos to Abakaliki to Thank Governor Nwifuru
A 37-year-old businessman from Ebonyi State, Jeremiah Nworu Obaji, has embarked on an extraordinary 633-kilometre journey on foot from Ikorodu, Lagos State, to Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, to personally express his gratitude to Governor Francis Nwifuru.
Obaji began his trek at 12:00 noon on Friday, August 22, 2025, receiving encouragement and support from friends and business associates who admired his commitment.
The journey is a personal tribute to Governor Nwifuru’s successful intervention in the Effium/Ezza-Effium communal conflict in Ohaukwu Local Government Area. The violence, which erupted in January 2021, led to multiple fatalities and the displacement of numerous families.
Speaking about his motivation, Obaji revealed that he had been hosting several displaced relatives, including his parents and in-laws, in his Lagos residence due to the unrest. He said the governor’s dedication to restoring peace—a key promise during his campaign—has been fulfilled, and this trek is his way of showing appreciation.
