DSS Raids Suspected Terrorist’s Residence in Niger, Recovers Arms, Dollars

In a significant security operation on Wednesday, personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS) raided the residence of a suspected hardened terrorist in the Gbeganu area, a suburb of Minna, Niger State.

The raid, carried out during daylight hours, left local residents in fear as DSS agents stormed the area. According to sources close to the operation, this marks the third raid in less than four years in the neighboring areas of Nkangbe and Gbeganu, both within Bosso Local Government Area. The targeted suspect is believed to be a storekeeper for a terrorist group, although the specifics of the arms recovered remain undisclosed.

Eyewitnesses reported to Daily Trust that a substantial amount of cash, including U.S. dollars, was seized during the raid. The suspect, previously known in the community as a tricycle rider, has now been linked to terrorist activities, a revelation that has shocked many locals.

Past incidents in the region include a raid in October 2023, where a suspected terrorist engaged security forces in a fierce gun battle before escaping. Another notable event occurred in June 2021, when a house associated with a notorious kidnapper was demolished after weapons were discovered during a raid.

When contacted, the Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that they had no information regarding the recent raid.
