In a recent development, the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) responsible for Economic Policy, Kingsley Obiora, has reportedly been questioned by the State Security Service (SSS). This interrogation comes as part of a broader investigation into allegations of financial mismanagement during the tenure of the embattled and suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, who is currently in the custody of the nation’s secret police.
Sources within the CBN suggest that this move may be linked to the Special Investigations Panel initiated by President Bola Tinubu to scrutinize Emefiele’s tenure, with the intention of having Obiora serve as a witness in the investigation.
It has been learned that Obiora had been cooperating with the investigative team since Wednesday and was subsequently released. Additionally, the Jim Obazee-led special panel has been conducting inquiries into the deputy governors of the CBN and other senior officials of the bank as part of an ongoing audit.
Importantly, sources emphasize that there are no allegations of fraud or theft against Dr. Obiora, and his questioning should be viewed in the context of routine interactions with the investigative panel.
