DSS Allegedly Detains Baze University Lecturer Over #EndBadGovernance Protest

 

 

The Department of State Services (DSS) has been accused of detaining Dr. Abubakar Alkali, a senior lecturer at Baze University in Abuja, for his alleged involvement in the #EndBadGovernance protests that occurred across the country in August.

 

The protests, which initially began as an anti-hunger and hardship demonstration, later evolved into the #EndBadGovernance movement. The nationwide protests took place between August 1 and 10, with participants demanding reforms. While protesters in some areas were allowed to demonstrate peacefully, security forces clamped down on the movement in other parts, leading to multiple arrests.

 

According to Barrister Deji Adeyanju, an Abuja-based lawyer, Dr. Alkali, who teaches Petroleum and Gas Engineering, was reportedly apprehended by DSS operatives three weeks ago. Adeyanju claims Alkali was transferred to Sokoto State, where he has been held in custody since then, due to his alleged support for the protests.

 

Attempts to confirm the arrest through the DSS hotline have gone unanswered, and the agency currently has no official spokesperson to comment on the situation.
