Drunken Father Arrested for Mistaking 9-Year-Old Daughter for Wife in Adamawa State
The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a 42-year-old man for mistakenly assaulting his 9-year-old daughter, believing her to be his wife.
Identified as Auwalu Shuaibu, the suspect confessed to the grievous act, leading to his arrest by authorities. This revelation came to light through Adamawa police spokesman SP Suleiman Ngurore, who confirmed the arrest on 11th March 2024.
According to reports, Auwalu admitted his wrongdoing at the police headquarters in Yola, expressing deep remorse for his actions. He recounted the events that transpired after returning from a meeting in Gizga, where he and a friend, Bashiru, indulged in alcohol consumption and the purchase of illicit substances.
Auwalu’s narrative unfolded with him falling asleep upon returning home around 6 pm, only to wake up to the presence of his daughter beside him, whom he tragically mistook for his wife in his inebriated state.
Expressing profound regret, Auwalu vowed to abstain from alcohol and illicit substances going forward.
In response to this appalling incident, SP Suleiman Yahaya Ngurore disclosed that CP Dankombo Morris had instructed the prosecution of the suspect, emphasizing the gravity of the offense committed.
