Dollar Weakens Slightly Against Naira at Official Market
The naira strengthened against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Tuesday, reversing the depreciation recorded a day earlier.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the naira closed at N1,419.35 per dollar on Tuesday, improving from N1,420.28 on Monday. This represents a marginal gain of 93 kobo on a day-to-day basis.
At the parallel market, the naira remained unchanged, trading at N1,493 per dollar, the same rate recorded on Monday.
The currency’s rebound comes amid a continued increase in Nigeria’s external reserves, which rose to $45.95 billion as of Tuesday, January 19, 2026, from $45.90 billion recorded last Friday.
The recovery follows Monday’s decline, when the naira weakened against the dollar at the official foreign exchange market.
