Doherty congratulates Adeleke, says Osun PDP’s victory over APC will invigorate S/W PDP

Convener of Unity Freedom Group (UFG) and former State Chairman of Lagos PDP, Eng. Adedeji Doherty, has congratulated Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory as Governor-elect of Osun State, saying that the thrashing of APC in the election will invigorate PDP across the South West states.

Senator Adeleke won the governorship election held yesterday, July 16, polling 403,371 to defeat 14 other candidates, including his closest rival and incumbent governor, Mr. Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola, APC candidate, who polled 375,027 votes.

In a statement e-signed on his behalf by Mr. Muka Popoola, head of DD Media Office, Doherty said the victory of Adeleke and the Osun PDP was well deserved, as majority of critical leaders and members of the party collaborated in doing all that was needed to be rightly done to position the party for victory at the election.

Senator Adeleke is a progeny of the influential Adeleke political dynasty since the Western region in the First Republic and younger brother of the deceased first executive governor of Osun State, the late Alhaji Isiaka Adeleke, under the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Dogerty who is also a former gubernatorial aspirant in the Lagos PDP, said that the victory of PDP in Osun state would be the beginning of the reclamation of other South West states that were snatched from the PDP through criminal manipulation of the electoral process.

Doherty said the ecstatic reactions of PDP leaders and members across the country who have been congratulating Adeleke and jubilating over the victory of PDP in Osun State shows that success truly has many mothers, adding that it is soul-lifting for every PDP faithful in Lagos State to share in the glory of Osun PDP.

He acknowledged that the victory of Adeleke did not happen overnight, neither was it achieved in a flimsy six-month period nor through any magical contraption, but a product of long planning and determination of himself, party faithfuls, and the good people of Osun State.

Recall that Adeleke had his first shot at election when he contested and won a seat into the Senate after the death of his brother, Isiaka Adeleke, some six years ago. He proceeded to contesting the 2018 governorship election in which he had a clear lead, but his race to the Government House was dramatically aborted during a fraudulent rerun covering only seven polling units only for Oyetola to be declared winner of the election.

Senator Adeleke did not allow the APC fraud to deter him, as he continued to work over the last four years with other leaders and members to build the Osun PDP to the formidable machinery that has now demolished the evil APC in the state.

Saying that he believes that Senator Adeleke, in line with his Imole de campaign mantra, will, as governor, work hard to remove the pall of darkness that the opposition APC had spread over the people since hijacking the state from PDP’s Olagunsoye Oyinlola, about 12 years ago, Doherty said the progressive administration that Osun State will start to experience after the infamous and ill-omened Oyetola government has gone will bring succour to the farmished people of the state.

Doherty, who noted that the Osun PDP did not attain victory at the polls by playing to the gallery, called on PDP leaders in the three states of Oyo, Ogun and Lagos that will be participating in the 2023 elections to firm up their strategies in order to confront the APC as a platform that is prepared to achieve victory for the PDP.

He described the APC in every state they currently govern and the Buhari federal government as a sharer of pains, having run aground the country’s economy, promoted insecurity, and escalated the unemployment level with unmitigated rising cost of living, but that PDP still has to organise itself for the elections as victory over the ruinous ruling party will not come on a platter.

While asking Lagos PDP members to remain committed and keep hope alive, Doherty assures that top leaders in the state, with South West and national leaders, will work assiduously to address all the issues causing discontent among the members to ensure that we go to the 2023 election as a united party and uproot the APC in Lagos State Government come the 2023 elections.
