“Do Not Mock Us”: Catholic Conference Slams Trump for AI Image Dressed as Pope
The New York State Catholic Conference has condemned U.S. President Donald Trump for posting an AI-generated image of himself dressed as the Pope. The photo, which Trump shared Saturday on his Truth Social account, quickly went viral across social media platforms but drew sharp criticism from the Catholic community.
In a statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Conference expressed outrage over the timing and tone of the image, calling it deeply inappropriate. “There is nothing clever or funny about this image, Mr. President,” the statement read. “We just buried our beloved Pope Francis and the cardinals are about to enter a solemn conclave to elect a new successor of St. Peter. Do not mock us.”
The conclave to elect the next pope is scheduled to begin Wednesday.
