DNA Test Exonerates Sexual Assault Allegations in Keren Akpagher’s Death

The DNA test results on the late Keren Akpagher have definitively ruled out sexual assault as a factor in her tragic demise.

Conducted by Sorensen Forensics and Genetic Technologies Inc., renowned forensic laboratories based in the United States, the tests concluded that there was no evidence of male DNA, including spermatozoa, in samples taken from Keren’s vaginal vault.

Keren, a 14-year-old student at Premiere Academy in Abuja, passed away in June 2021 under controversial circumstances, with initial claims suggesting she died from septic shock due to a “decayed condom and dead sperm” found in her vagina.

Following extensive investigations by the FCT police, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), and the Ministry of Education, including an autopsy conducted in July 2021, doubts were cast on the allegations of sexual assault.

The recent DNA test results, which align with the findings of the autopsy, have raised more questions than answers regarding the cause of Keren’s death. The autopsy report described Keren’s urogenital system as “unremarkable,” with no indication of trauma or foreign material.

While Keren’s mother, Vihimga Akpagher, maintains that her daughter died from an infection caused by the presence of a condom in her vagina, Premiere Academy has refuted these claims. The school’s lead director, Stella Fawehinmi, has called for an investigation into Queens Clinic, where Keren passed away, suggesting that the true circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear.

With the DNA test results effectively ruling out sexual assault, the mystery surrounding Keren Akpagher’s untimely death persists, leaving her family, the school, and the public awaiting further answers.
